Resumen del Libro

The purpose of this work is to address, examine, and explain the role of interruption as narrative technique as it appears in the first Hispanic-American modern novel At the Edge of the Storm written by Mexican author Agustin Yanez. Theoretical bases to define the narrative technique of interruption and how this technique has been used in world literature are found in the first section of this study. We have identified and classified instances of interruptions into three categories: narrative, historical, and grammatical. In order to explain the function and significance of these interruptions, we have also examined the social, religious, and political context of pre-revolutionary, revolutionary, and post-revolutionary Mexico, since the main theme of Al filo del aqua (At the Edge of the Storm) is the impending breakout of the Mexican Revolution that consolidated Mexico as a nation.
