This report reviews the various sea farming and sea ranching practices used in the Peoples Republic of China, based on published and unpublished information, statistical data and case studies. It considers the development of marine fisheries during the past 50 years, and the shift to aquaculture-based operations due to problems caused by overfishing and degradation of the coastal environment. It looks at the eight sea farming and ranching systems used in China, and discusses a range of marine resources management issues.
