Resumen del Libro

Pursuing an artistic practice that merges digital technology with his formidable skill as a painter, Ricardo Mazal projects the ancient site of Palenque in a wholly new manner, as he conjures the poetics of a spiritually charged space existing over time. He expresses the site as a complex, multi-layered sphere that begins with the natural environment and moves inward, culminating with The Tomb of the Red Queen. In a series of paintings, photographs and monotypes, Mazal reflects upon the Maya worldview in which human life, nature, and the sacred, are inextricably intertwined. This philosophy is most powerfully articulated in his installation Rojo Sobre Negro (Red Over Black) that concludes the series, a work that represents Mazals first experience working with this visual format.
