The objectives of this study were: identify socio-economic variables, identify type of labor by gender and perform a cost analysis of herbs and spices and medicinal plant producers in Puerto Rico. A survey was done to 38 producers, 51% of the population, and 33 usable questionnaires were used to perform the analysis. Around 30% of the producers (10) were between 45-54 years old, while only 39% (13) graduated from high school. Only 39% (13) of the producers use a computer as a tool to keep accounting records. In addition, this study found that 21% of the work forces for these operations were women. Among the duties that women perform were cleaning and harvesting, 33% and 50% respectively. In most of the operations the duties were equivalent for both men and women. The aromatic plants that take place more are cilantrillo and recao. In the analysis of income and expenses one was that this is a profitable company.
