Resumen del Libro

A young married couple receives a permit to spend a few days in a vacation spot. The narrative is divided into two parts and told by two voices, the first belongs to an anonymous woman, fearful of losing her husband, Hector, frustrated by the burden of being a mother and incapable of living in Cuba under the Communist regime. Her thoughts reveal her torment and the painful love she feels towards her husband, whom she suspects to be unfaithful. The second voice belongs to Hector, a poet and a disillusioned revolutionary, who allegorically speaks about himself and about life in Cuba. In one of his best novels Arenas expresses through them his sense of frustration and the longing for liberty.
