A portrait of one of the founding members and early influential leaders of the Chilean Socialist Party. In the early 1940s, following an abortive attempt at his partys presidential nomination, Schnake abandoned party politics, serving as Chilean Ambassador to Mexico and France under President Juan Antonio Ríos, and later as Minister of Mining under Gabriel González Videla, before going on to the United Nations and later the Inter-American Development Bank –Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 57.
