Focuses on indigenous and mestiza womens perceptions of environmental degradation in jungle in Chiapas. Based on 40 in-depth interviews and 121 questionnaires. Finds that women link deforestation to lack of natural resources and attribute this to health problems and nutritional needs. Contends that womens knowledge of jungle is a resource for redefining development –Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 57.
