Resumen del Libro

Three letters, dated Jan. 3, 1772-Dec. 21, 1773 in Cádiz, Spain, from the marqués de Castillejos to Tomás de Anda y Salazar in Madrid, concerning certain financial matters. The marqués letter of Jan. 3, 1772 responds to Andas letter of Dec. 27, asking him for 8,000 reales de vellón to assist Juan Francisco Solanos son, Bartolomé. The marqués has sent the money in care of Romero de Texada, and asks Anda to send him a receipt for it in triplicate. The second letter, dated Aug. 11, 1772, encloses a bill of lading from Diego Mozun & Cia. for a small chest sent by Juan Francisco Solano to his son, Bartolomé, aboard the ship La Palas. He is also sending a list of the contents of the chest. In the last letter, dated Dec. 21, 1773, the marqués encloses 12,000 reales to defray costs in the case of Juan Francisco Solano and to assist Solanos daughter. However, the marqués cannot pay off other notes given to José Gálvez by Gómez de Careaga of Manila until he has sold a shipment of cinnamon in which he has invested. Licenses and freight costs have depleted his cash. He regrets the difficulties this may cause Gálvez, but his hands are tied.
