This forms the first publication of the results of investigations by the Michoacan Project in Mexico (1983-1986). After a short discussion of the site of Loma Alta and the discoveries made, the majority of the volume focuses on the material culture evidence, notably the ceramic assemblage, and the unusual burials and complex funerary customs associated with them found at the site. Evidence from Loma Alta provides important evidence for the proto-Classic period (the site being occupied from c.100BC to AD250) and allows interpretations of the relationships that existed between the northern regions and the Southwest USA.
