A coedition with the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, this is a collection of fundamental works of the Puerto Rican literary tradition. Each volume contains a prologue and notes. An end-of-the century novel which marks the transition from romantic Puerto Rican prose to realism. A story about the desperation of unrequited love, The Doll, is one of seven novels by Eulate Sanjurjo considered by many to be the first great female humanist of Puerto Rico. This annotated edition contains the prologue Manuel Zeno Gandia wrote for the original volume in 1895.
