Extensively illustrated examination of the role played by North American entrepreneur John Brittingham in the modernization and industrialization of northern Mexico, especially Monterrey. Drawing on personal and political contacts, Brittingham prospered in both the Porfirian and post-Revolutionary periods, playing a leading role in the banking, glass, and cement industries and helping to lay the foundations for two of Mexicos current industrial giants, CEMEX and VITRO –Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
