This is the story of Emilia, perhaps the best developed female character in modern Spanish letters. Emilia is a thoroughly modern woman, living a life possible only in a late twentieth century city, surrounded by a society that is at once brought with urgency and energy and is also wildly confused. Emilia, who is both secure and insecure, is just as ready to give herself completely to right jobs as to wrong man.
