Study focuses on the poorest segment of the Caracas population. Based on census materials and other unpublished statistical sources (e.g. burial records), argues that the high incidence of poverty – 61.6 percent in 1891 – was not a significant political issue –Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
