Contexto Latinoamericano is a new quarterly Spanish-language theoretical magazine from Latin America and by Latin Americans, which aims to facilitate and promote the exchange of ideas among activists and political and social movements throughout the continent. It offers a timely forum for debate on current political and cultural issues in Latin America. This launch issue of Contexto Latinoamericano reviews the success of progressive or left-wing candidates in recent presidential elections in Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, and Peru. Other articles cover Puerto Rico’s struggle for independence, Monroeism versus Bolivarianism, and artists and the commercialization of art.
