This study, completed in 1990, is intended as an overview and introduction to the diverse treasury of pre- and postcontact indigenous Mexican manuscripts, with chapters on materials from the Nahuas, Borgia group, Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Mayas, and other cultures. An update and expansion of the compilers famous 1955 essay of a similar nature (see HLAS 22:500). Limited coverage of ethnohistorical studies from the 1970s and 1980s –Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
