Important collection of transcribed minutes of town council meetings in the 1570s. These reports both detail and illustrate municipal life in Pasto, from the politically mundane, as on March 23, 1577, when the council met only to decide there was nothing to discuss and adjourned – to the important, as the Feb. 13, 1577, meeting illustrates with its discussion of personnel, religious, fiscal, and jurisdictional issues. A number of appendices listing various office holders and three indexes facilitate use of the meeting reports –Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
