The main aim of the present thesis is to obtain new knowledge about the design process in order to define new parameters to improve creative design, both by individuals and groups, and by computational design support systems. Its specific objectives are: (1) To establish a method for the evaluation of design effectiveness. In order to compare the various design proposals, a method for the evaluation of design effectiveness in the conceptual phase is required. (2) To obtain parameters for the improvement of design effectiveness through the evolution of problem definition. (3) To establish procedures associated to the creative methods defined by Boden so as they may be implemented both as designer actions and in computational design support systems. (4) To define the desired functions for implementation in a computational design support system. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
