The first publication of Women and Servants in an edition under the watchful eye of Alejandro García Reidy is a literary accomplishment of the first order that allows us to discover one of the author’s most outstanding works of comedy. Until very recently, Women and Servants was one of the many dramatic works by Lope de Vega of which only its name was known. But the recent chance discovery of a 17th-century manuscript in the National Library of Spain has allowed us to finally get to know this elegant comedy conceived by the author in his creative prime.
