In order to build my arguments, I have relied on authors that have explored the connections between gender and nation in different contexts, particularly George Mosse and Nira Yuval-Davis. I have also used studies that examine male and female roles during wartime, such as those by Paul Fussell, Christina S. Jarvis, Jean Bethke Elshtain or Nicole Ann Dombrowski.
